In our Training Base in Wiler we run various courses and schools, amongst these also a so called School of Biblical Studies which takes 9 months of study. Of course not everyone can take 9 months off from work to do in-depth Bible-Study, which would of course equip one with extensive tools and habits for Bible-Study.
Since as Christians we still do need a very sound understanding of God’s Word and of proper methods of Observation, Interpretation and Application. This will help us not to be “blown about by every wind of doctrine” as Paul puts it in his letter to the Ephesians.
For this reason we have taken the principles of study from the 9 months course and have modified them, so they can be used in a setting of study besides your work or job. We call this the bi-weekly SBS, since we meet every other saturday in order to study the books of the New Testament in-depth as well. This should help you an sharpen your skills in Bible-Study like the longer school.
You learn to study the Bible yourself and you learn to use tools that are helpful for Bible-Study. The focus is on understanding books as a whole and thus the message of the whole New Testament.
For the time being we have only set up the course for the New Testament, since working in the Old Testament is a bit more challenging with a limited timeframe. Going through the NT this way alone takes about 2 years, so the OT would be an even longer journey. But the tools and skills you learn may be applied to the OT as well.
In the near future we may also set up something for the Old Testament – we’re working on that.
